DE: Mark Camp - KE0KO
I have taken two programs found in the Compuserve HAMNET forum that
do antenna calculations, modified them, and compiled them using
Microsoft QuickBasic.
These programs were originally written by N3CHT and K1TKL. I take no
credit for their work and an not asking for any monetary remuneration
whatsoever. I have only tidied up the code a bit (not much), added
some color and print formatting, combined the two together, and compiled
them. I preferred having them in one program as opposed to two, and
also liked K1TKL's quad program better than N3CHT's quad routine.
I have used these programs to make some crude antennas that ended up
working very well. Using these programs as a starter, I fashioned a
four element two-meter quad which I mounted in my shack on the pole
of a floor to ceiling lamp (which I could rotate). During a great
two-meter opening a couple of years ago, using the quad inside the
house on 3 watts, I was able to work 11 states and 30 grid squares
on two-meter SSB.
I have also used the quad calculations to make a 440 Mhz desktop
quad out of aluminum grounding wire and tinker toys. It worked
great for local repeaters - much better than the rubber duckie on
the HT.
Have fun! 73's de KE0KO, St. Louis, MO.
